What exactly do I get?
Five downloads, plus the free booklet, all on one download page (six files in all). Everything is digital: nothing is shipped. The Prairie Kitchen Book (PDF, 94 pages, 35 recipes), the Large-Print Kitchen Edition (PDF), At Marlys's Kitchen Table (MP3 audio, about 13 minutes), the Fridge Reference Card (PDF, 1 page), Our Family Recipes keepsake sheets (PDF, 6 pages), and the free booklet A Taste of the Prairie.
Is the large-print edition a different book?
No. It has the same 35 recipes, set in bigger, clearer type with a simple layout that's easy on the eyes and on printer ink. Use whichever one you find easier to read.
How do I listen to the audio?
Tap the MP3 file on your download page. It plays in your phone or computer's own player, with no app to install.
How do I get it after I pay?
Right after payment you'll see a download page, and Gumroad emails you the same link. Tap any file to open it. You can come back to that email and download everything again any time.
I lost my download link. What now?
Search your email for "Gumroad" or "Prairie Kitchen" (check the spam or promotions folder too). Still can't find it? Write to with the email you used to pay, and we'll send it again.
I'm not good with computers. Will I manage?
If you can open an email, you can open this book. It works on any phone, tablet or computer. If you get stuck, write to us and a real person will walk you through it.
Can I print it?
Yes. Print the whole book, or only the recipes you want to keep by the stove. Everything is sized for US Letter paper and also prints fine on A4 (choose "fit to page").
Is the free booklet really free?
Yes. Tap "Send me the free recipes" and the price is already set to $0. Gumroad asks for your email address so it can send you the link.
Who is Marlys?
Marlys is the storyteller character from our YouTube channel. Her voice and many images are made with AI. The recipes are researched adaptations of Northern Plains and Canadian prairie cooking, with sources credited at the back of the book.
Is this a printed book in the mail?
No. It's a digital PDF, so nothing is shipped and you can start cooking today.
Will I find the ingredients?
Almost everything is at a regular grocery store. Saskatoon berries can be hard to find outside the northern states, so the recipe tells you how to use blueberries instead.
Do I need special equipment?
Most recipes need only an ordinary oven, stovetop and pans. Two cookies need special tools (a krumkake iron and sandbakkel molds), and every recipe lists its equipment at the top.
What if it's not for me?
